A Delhi University student has knocked at the doors of the Delhi Minority Commission claiming he had been “humiliated” by a bank manager just because he belongs to the minority committee. However, the police claimed that they are yet to hear from the `victim.’

According to the petition filed before the commission, Khalid Ali Abbasi, an 18-year-old political science student of Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, has claimed that he had gone to Syndicate Bank’s Yamuna Vihar branch in northeast Delhi on January 22 to enquire why his ATM card was not working.

An argument broke out with branch manager Mahesh Chand Sharma. Abbasi alleged Sharma hurled abuses and insulted him in front of a room full of people because of his religion. The manager reportedly passed anti-Muslim remarks and blocked Abbasi’s account permanently.

Kargil war veteran Baldev Singh was shot dead and robbed by three men in Bhajanpura, Northeast District. He was carrying Rs 8.45 lakh.

The incident occurred around 10 am barely 50 meters from a police picket — reportedly manned by two personnel.

“He was on way to the Syndicate Bank extension branch, just across the road, inside the Yamuna Vihar bus depot branch at C-Block community centre,” According to police.

The attacker’s two accomplices were waiting nearby on a Pulsar motorcycle, the get-away vehicle. The trio shot in the air when some of the onlookers gave chase.

“He had been working at the Bharat Petroleum pump for a decade and regularly went to Syndicate Bank to deposit the collection amount,” According to police.

Police suspect the gang had done a recce of the pump premises. “Initial investigations suggest the assailants to be history-sheeters, familiar with the area,” said S S Yadav, DCP, Northeast District.

Eight armed men robbed a businessman and his family of cash and jewellery worth Rs.2 million at gunpoint inn Yamuna Vihar, the police said Thursday.

The robbers struck around 8.45 p.m. Wednesday in Yamuna Vihar area of north-east Delhi.

A family was robbed at gunpoint at their Yamuna Vihar home on Wednesday night. Scrap dealer Dilshad was at home with his father, wife and three-month-old daughter when three people knocked on the door around 8.45 pm. “They forced themselves in and demanded we hand over all our belongings at gunpoint. Two more joined them and took away 65 tolas of jewellery and Rs 17 lakh in cash,” said Dilshad. He called the police immediately.

A case has been registered and a search has been launched to nab the culprits, the police said.

A private contractor for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), identified as Gyan Prakash (50), was reportedly killed near C-block, Yamuna Vihar, after the car he was travelling in collided with a divider and overturned. According to the police, Prakash was on the front seat of the Maruti 800 car and was returning after playing Holi at Loni. He and his friends were reportedly drunk. While Prakash died on the spot at 8.30 pm, his friends received injuries.

A 13-year-old student lost her life while her two younger sisters seriously injured after they were hit by a speeding truck on Thursday afternoon. Their younger brother, however, escaped with minor injuries. The children, who were returning from their school, were hit by the truck at C-Block crossing, Yamuna Vihar on Wazirabad Road in northeast Delhi.

According to the police, the incident took place around 12.30pm. “The students were trying to cross the road when a speeding truck hit them. They were rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where Meena (13) was declared brought dead. Savita (11) and Suman (8) have received injuries in the lower portions of their body and are undergoing treatment at emergency ward. Their brother Sagar (6) received minor injuries”

OBC is a customer-friendly bank deeply involved in upliftment of weaker section of society.
